Multiple studies published in peer-reviewed, scientific journals show that upwards of 97% of climate scientists agree that warming trends over the past century are likely due to human activities. Simply put, we are changing the Earth’s climate, and a significant factor causing this change is greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

In the US, most of the emissions of human-caused, greenhouse gases come from burning fossil fuels for energy use. Due to this and other factors, there continues to be a shift from exclusive reliance on fossil fuels to a focus on renewable energy. Federal, state, and local governments have implemented legislation and programs which promote the use of renewable energy. Utilities continue to seek out renewable energy to blend into their portfolios as more consumers demand to have their energy derived from renewable sources. Institutional investors and endowments face pressure to divest in fossil fuel funds.

Given the realization that unchecked climate change will not only have environmental and health impacts, but also significant financial impacts, businesses have taken note. Corporations like Google, Facebook, and Amazon are purchasing increasing amounts of clean energy through power purchase agreements. Even some traditional oil and gas companies are talking about reducing greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2050 by investing in renewable energy. Although people have a tendency to think of solar and wind when they hear the term “renewable energy”, there are others such as hydropower, geothermal, and biogas. Biogas is produced by the anaerobic digestion of organic matter and consists mainly of methane and carbon dioxide. Biogas from organic sources can be cleaned to meet pipeline specifications, thus becoming a replacement for conventional natural gas. RNG Future, LLC is dedicated to advancing biogas as a clean energy and assisting in the development of Renewable Natural Gas projects.
